‘Most Impactful Project’ Award @ BlockchainSPIRIT Hackathon, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore
Three Engineering students from the University of Southampton Malaysia (UoSM), Do Wen Rei, Delveer Singh and Chia Tze Hank’s winning creation was a ‘Legal-chain’. It is an app that applies speech recognition technology to generate court transcripts for legal proceedings using blockchain technology. They successfully adapted blockchain technology into other sectors such as legal and government.
21st Moscow International Salon of Inventions and Innovation Technologies (Archimedes) @ Moscow, Russia
Five of the six schools representing Malaysia won this international innovation technology competition with their ingenious inventions. The invention that brought home the gold award was a homemade diesel and herbal hair dye by SJKT Ladang Wellesley and SJKT Arumugam Pillai respectively.
SMK Convent Father Barre won a silver award for their auto-feeder project.
SMK Sultan Badlishah and SJKT Ladang Sungai Ular brought home the bronze award for their Edison saver and smart gardening system ideas. These technological inventions are expected to run the world in the near future.
IAEA’s Third International Conference on Human Resource Development for Nuclear Power Programmes @ Gyeongju, South Korea
The winning application that won the competition was an app that the team from SMK Kuala Besut named “100 Things about Nuclear Science and Life”. They invited tourists and locals to participate in their educational tool to discuss attitudes towards nuclear science and technology.
After the project, 96% of respondents had a positive perception of both nuclear energy and science, as Safiyyah Bt Muhammad Nasir, one of the team members, mentioned in an interview by The Star Online.
They were given the task of promoting discussion and awareness on nuclear technology with regards to the two subjects and the future of nuclear energy.
Historic Launch of UiTMSAT-1
Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) is the first public university to successfully launch its nano-satellite, UiTMSAT-1 into outer space.
The 10cm cube-shaped nano-satellite was built by Syazana Basyirah Mohamad Zaki and Muhammad Hasif Azami, two UiTM students who are currently studying in Japan, through a collaborative effort with the Kyushu Institute of Technology (KyuTech) under the ‘Joint Global Multi-Nation Programme’, according to Malaysia Kini.
The satellite was sent into space at the International Space Station (ISS) aboard the cargo rocket Space X Falcon 9 on 29th June 2018, 5.45pm local time.
The satellite has six missions: “test the satellite’s location correlation and Global Positioning System chip, measure the magnetic field in outer space to obtain data on geomagnetic mapping in Southeast Asia and for radio communication” according to Bernama.
