Microsoft’s plan is to upgrade Windows 10 twice a year and they are known to be major updates. Since the launch of Windows 10 in 2018, the last major update was in 2017- the ‘Fall Creators Update’ on 17th of October. As the first Windows that will receive ongoing feature updates, many anticipate the support for many platforms, applications, software and services to be provided by Microsoft.
The latest semi-annual update was on 10th of April 2018, Windows version 1803. It included new features, tweaks and support for multiple applications to make life easier for the users.
Timeline View
Task view now includes a timeline below your current window that will show your activities in the past 30 days. Just press Windows Key + Tab to access your history which helps you to monitor your activity or access documents and projects effortlessly.
Nearby Sharing
Nearby Sharing is now possible on Windows, where you can share files and documents with a touch of a button, similar to Apple’s AirDrop. Turn on your Bluetooth and Nearby Sharing Features with options to control them, whether you want to send it to ‘Everyone Nearby’ or ‘My Devices Only’.
Focus Assist
Your do-not-disturb mode now gets even more particular with Focus Assist (known as Quiet mode in the previous version). It provides you with more than just an ‘on-off’ toggle button, but with three options of ‘Off’, ‘Priority’ and ‘Alarms Only’ with automatic rules. It can be set to not disturb you during crucial times when you are in a game or in the middle of your presentation.
Diagnostic data viewer
Since the Facebook-Cambridge Analytica data scandal, people are more wary of their data being shared, distributed or collected by any third party. Windows 10 provides you with options to share your diagnostic data at a ‘Basic’ or ‘Full Level’. There is also a bold ‘Delete’ button if you choose not to share any of your data collected by Microsoft.
Edge & Cortana Updates
The updates most (possibly all) have been waiting for, a mute option for Windows Edge. Catching up with fan-favourite-browsers such as Firefox and Chrome, it is now as easy as clicking the speaker icon to mute them! In addition to that, they will also be available in night mode! Cortana has been upgraded and more powerful with the ability to power up smart homes and play music on Spotify.
Redstone 5
It is predicted to be officially released in the months of October and November. This is the codename for the next big update for Windows 10 with its preview available for selected users.
Redstone 5 is said to be “more polished” and will include features such as motion controller apps, dark theme for explorer and updates on Microsoft’s Fluent Language, which shows that these features are catered for gamers. Until its official release, we are hyped up to see what the new release will have to offer in terms of performance and features.
Software is now expected to provide users with ease of accessibility, increased productivity and an immersive user experience. From the creative industry’s point of view – they require powerful processors for designing and creating art and production. These new features are enabling designers and developers to manage their tasks through ‘Task View’ and with the Redstone update; it empowers them to work efficiently and productively. In addition to that, there is a change in the immersive experience scene for the users which creative marketers will be able to benefit from by leveraging technology.
